[email protected] FAQ

Q: How much bandwidth do I need?

A: Voice Over IP “VOIP” is a low bandwidth protocol therefore the total amount of bandwidth you need depends on the number of active devices you have in your home at any given time. The more devices using your home internet, the more bandwidth you will need. It is also important to keep in mind that as technology changes you are likely to add additional devices to your home network. We recommend that you get the highest amount of bandwidth possible for your area.  You may want to consider a second internet connection to your home to use exclusively for your VOIP service if you are limited in the amount of bandwidth available.

Q: Are there any recommended changes to the router?

A: We recommend that you setup Quality of Service “QoS” on the router to prioritize the VOIP traffic. We also recommend that you turn off SIP ALG in the router’s setup.
You can follow your router’s manual to complete both tasks or see the installation documents on the routers manufacturer’s web page.

Q: Can I use WiFi to make and receive phone calls?

A: Yes, you can, using the IX Workplace application on your computer. While connected to WiFi use the IX Workplace to register to the phone system.

Q: How far away from my router can my computer be?

A: We recommend that you test your speed next to the router and then move to your preferred work area and retest. If you find that the response times have dropped, we recommend that you install WiFi signal extenders in your network to assist with the loss of signal.

Q: How do I connect to the phone system from home?

A: Each of our customers are setup with individual secure connections to their phone system. You will need to reach out to your IT team for the proper setup.
